When I need to
collaborate with other students on a project outside of class, I used
to send an e-mail to our group-members to tell when we should
collaborate to share our opinions. That was pretty
troublesome. One reason is that I have to send an e-mail to everybody
in my group. Second reason is that it is difficult to find the common time to collaborate. Moreover, in the group-work collaboration, it is difficult to reflect everybody's opinion because the most people, 70 percent of the group members, just follow the persons, 30 percent of group-members, who are aggressive to assert their opinions. Furthermore it is difficult to have a efficient discussion. In a group work discussion, the discussion often deviate the theme of the gropu work project. Since a group project outside of class is not in class, many people often put the topics wich are not related to the project: topic of hobby, topics which some share, and topics of other classes. Sometimes group-members talk about the topic which are not related to the projects in a whole discussion. This is a waste of time. Therefore I feel that a group project outside of class is inefficient. I even think that it is much more efficient to do the works by myself rather than collaborating with others in doing the works because of these difficulties.

In Google Docs, one can turn the documents into the on-line versions. Since they are on-line, one can access anywhere and anytime. Moreover, one not only can share the documents with others, but also can collaborate with others in editing the documents by inviting the collaborators. It is easy to invite the collaborators. Click "share", write the e-mail address of the others that one wants to add , and click "invite the collaborators." Furthermore one can save not only the documents, but spreadsheets and presentations in Google Docs. These aspects of Google Docs benefit one a lot. For example, one does not have to meet the others to collaborate on a group project. One and the others can collaborate in the web through google docs. This would erase many difficulties: difficulty in finding common times, difficulty in
reflecting everybody's opinion, and difficulty in having efficient discussions.

The first main skill needed to use GDS is to sign up the GDS account. It is very easy. One just needs to make his or her username and password. Second main skill needed is to go to the "Spreadsheet" and create the chart. Since this was the first timefor me to create the chart, I had thought it would be difficult to create the chart before creating. However it is very easy to create the charts. One just have to put the number into the cell of the spreadsheets, and then click "insert"
, click "chart", and then click "save chart." Third main skill needed is to export the chart from "Spreadsheet" to "Document." It was a little complicated to me. First one has to export the chart to the desktop, and then one has to export the chart from the desktop to "Document." Fourth is to send the document which I created to my e-portfolio. It is easy. One just has to click "share", click "Publish as web page", click "Publish document", write his or her accounts and passwords, and then send it. These are the main skills needed to use GDS.

GDS benefited me a lot. One is that I can collaborate on a group project in the web through GDS. This saves a lot of extra time and erase many difficulties: difficulty in finding common times, difficulty in
reflecting everybody's opinion, and difficulty in efficient discussion. In the next term, I will utilize GDS for a group project. Second is that I can access the documents(,spreadsheets or presentations) anywhere and anytime without USB. This helps me a lot because I tend to forget to bring USB. Now I do not have to worry about USB. Third is that I can share my essays with my friends and can let them comment on them. Through GDS, my friends can easily read my essays and put comment on them. This helps me improve my essays a lot.

By inviting the others to one's GDS, one and the others can make the network. In GDS, they can share the documents(, spreadsheets, or presentations) and can collaborate on works among them. By sharing the documents, they can learn the new things from their essays each other. Moreover they can improve their essays by putting comments on their essays each other.

Lesson 5:Google Docs gave me two main skills. One is to make my documents on-line version. As I sad in the above sentences, this benefits me a lot. Now I do not have to worry about USB. Moreover I can improve my essays and can learn new things from the others by sharing the documents. Furthermore I save a lot of extra time. Second is to create the charts and put them into the documents. This also helps me a lot. To make the evidences more specific in the essays, the statistics are effective. However it is often bother to look at the statistics because of too many nembers. The charts make it much easier to look at the statistics. Now I can create the charts and put them into the documents for the final essays of the other classes. This would make the essays much better. In addition to these skills, I learned a big lesson from this lesson. As this GDS made my life much more efficient, other degital tools would make my life much much more efficient. This also means I am losing a lot of opportunities to save the extra time because of poor knowledge about digital tools. Therefore I feel I need to make an effort to learn about the knowldge of digital tools not to waste my time.
Thanks Mr.Owen. Thanks to you, I could learn a lot of things about digital tools. These tools benefited me a lot. I already utilize many of them in my school life. In the future, these tools would benefit me a lot,too. After this class, I will keep learning about digital tools because now I know these tools would benefit me a lot. I really think your class enlightened me a lot. I really appreciated it.
